10 Things About Me

  1. My team at the Getty won a Webby award waaaaaaay back in 2002, for our exhibition site Devices of Wonder. I was specifically responsible for the non-Flash, html-only version of the site.
  2. I play pool. My team won a company Scotch Doubles tournament when I still lived in Boston, and my current BCA league team won first place in July 2014 at the BCA National Championships in Las Vegas, in the Women’s 8-ball Team Bronze Division. My mom used to tell people I majored in pool when I was in college.

  3. There’s a character based on me in The Gathering Dark by Christopher Golden. (The character was killed horribly—the danger of being friends with a popular horror/dark fantasy author.) I’ve also been mentioned in a few non-fiction books.
  4. There’s a demon named after me in season four of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (Thank you, David Fury!) Yes, I was (and still am) a huge fan of the show and used to post about it all the time on the internet, when it was still airing.
  5. I love taking pictures, and I have two photos that have been published in books: Will the Vampire People Please Leave the Lobby? by Allyson Beatrice (my trifecta–I took the author picture, I’m in the acknowledgments, and I’m mentioned several times in at least one chapter!), and Inside the Getty (J. Paul Getty Trust) (which published my photo of a colleague at his desk—it’s actually a pretty boring photo, don’t go look it up).
  6. I got a D- in my very first programming class in college. I’d never touched a computer in my life, and I got thrown into the deep end of the pool my first semester. It was a pre-req for Math majors, so I changed majors rather than go through that horror again—which, by the way, is one of the greatest regrets of my life.
  7. I’ve been dying my hair blue since Memorial Day weekend, 2005. It started as a whim and I loved it so much, I’ve never stopped. And sometimes there’s even a little pink streak hidden under the blue.
  8. I love to knit and crochet. I find it incredibly relaxing, and makes me feel less guilty when I’m vegging on my couch watching TV if I have yarn and needles or a hook in my hands.
  9. I’m a geek. I dabble in all kinds of geeky things–genre TV, superhero movies, YA post-apocalyptic novels, board games, comic cons, cat memes, crafting–you name it, I’ve probably geeked out about it at one time or another. Me = big-ass geek. I don’t even bother trying to hide it anymore.
  10. I have two cats named Jack and Zeva that I adore more than hot showers. And I’m a huge fan of hot showers. May 2015

Whew! Finally made it to ten. And now you know what a dork I really am.
